Fathers Day..
With Father's Day just around the corner, thinking of my Father brought back many memories.

My Dad became a Realtor back in the '50's when the fee was only $2.00 for a real estate license.
It was a time Ontario was starting to grow. I remember thinking all my Dad did was paperwork, talk on the phone a lot and spend time away from home and not with me.

One day my friend decided to become a Real Estate agent and asked for my Dad's help. At that time there were no schools or training classes in our area, but my Dad promised to help her study the Real Estate and Business Broker's Act to prepare her for an exam that was then written in front of a judge.
My friend wanted me to help her study and I told her becoming a Realtor was not for me, but I would attend with her.

I discovered that my Dad had been mentoring several people who were looking for a new career.
He reviewed the little light blue book of less than 30 pages, which contained the Act, and used real life illustrations. Almost at once I wanted to know why this... and why that?

I was hooked !

Both of us wrote the exam; I passed and my friend didn't. I realized then growing up, that by listening to my Father's telephone conversations, I was subliminally learning the Real Estate business.
I said to my Father, "do not catch the fish for me, but teach me how to fish for myself." He did and for that I will be eternally grateful. His legacy ... because of my Dad, many branches of our family became Realtors, builders and developers and as new generations came along, they continued to do so.

Guess you could say it's in our blood.
Happy Father's day Dad!
